About the Winners

Daniel Jimenez, CPP, PSP

In Mr. Jimenez’s nomination it states, “As a Chapter Chair, he has carried out study groups to promote the CPP certification, in which 4 out of 10 participants have certified so far. Additionally, two study groups are planned for 2021.”

His most remarkable achievement is the increase of Chapter membership from 60 members in November 2019 to 120 in December 2020 and the chapter involvement in the mentoring group and Young Professionals.

Melvin Tze-Hui Cheng, CPP, PSP

In Mr. Cheng’s nomination it states, “Melvin Cheng, CPP, PSP has been running the CPP and PSP review programs over the past two years with much success. A total of 3 review programs were conducted locally in 2020 despite the Covid-19 restrictions.”

He has championed the certification and awareness of our programs diligently over the past two years. He has also mentored and guided our members into attaining CPP/PSP certifications. Our local chapter members certification number have increased exponentially since he has been championing our efforts
toward certification and professional development.

Abdullah Alshehri, CPP, PCI,
PSP

In Mr. Alshehri’s nomination it states, “Abdullah Alshehri is ASIS board-certified in Security Management (CPP), Physical Security (PSP), and Investigations (PCI). Abdullah strongly believes that personal development and education is a lifelong process, and he vigorously pursues learning opportunities that arise in the security field. He values the security industry professional certifications and is proud to be an ASIS Triple Crown holder. He attained all three designations in only 13 months. Abdullah works hard to encourage his peers, colleagues, and other security practitioners in external organizations to pursue ASIS certifications by providing sessions to introduce the ASIS certifications’ value advantages, and persuaded KAUST Security management to enroll 46 professionals in the ASIS APP certification program.

Thamer H. Al-Sufiani LLM, CPP, PSP, PCI, CSM

Mr. Al-Sufiani has led all the security initiatives inside and outside KAUST with major coordination with the ASIS Jeddah Chapter.
He coordinated 30 ASIS virtual study group courses (paid for by KAUST and administered through the ASIS Jeddah chapter) and has presented many sessions to introduce the value and benefits of ASIS Certification, not only for KAUST’s security staff but also for many professionals from other departments. In 2020, he voluntarily led a training program for the KAUST Security Department. The program consisted of 50 security employees from different departments. During the program, he provided more than 70 sessions to prepare participants for taking the CPP, PSP, PCI, and APP exams.

Jason Michael Struck, CPP, PSP

In Mr. Struck’s nomination it states, “He is quick to share his knowledge and volunteer his time to ensure the ASIS Certification Study Groups at the Greater Atlanta Chapter thrive.” He continues to serve as a facilitator, or any other support needed to make the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter CPP and PSP Study Group Programs a resounding success.

He has been a member of the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter Member since 2011 and serves as one of its key contributors of the CPP Study Group. He obtained his CPP Certification in 2017 and PSP Certification in 2019.

Elroy L. Shirvington, CPP

In Mr. Shirvington’s nomination it states, “He is one of the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter Members who is one of the key contributors of the CPP Study Group and is quick to support the Chapter's ASIS Certification Chair's efforts in keeping ASIS Certification as a top priority of the chapter's membership.”
After years of facilitating a face-to-face study group for the Greater Atlantic Chapter, in 2020 he transitioned to a virtual study group. To help make this transition, he had to study all the topics for the CPP Study Group and prepare his presentations with very limited time between each domain topic. Elroy is a true warrior in supporting the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter.

Larry D. Woods, CPP, PSP

In Mr. Woods’s nomination it states, “Since 2016 he has been the chapter’s key driving force in encouraging ASIS Certification and continuing the many decades of the chapter’s sponsored CPP and PSP study groups.” These study groups continue to yield an extremely high CPP and PSP exam pass rate by those members who attend the CPP, and PSP Study Groups lead by Larry and his team of facilitators. In 2021, the Chapter Leadership Team determined that, in the consideration of safety, the CPP Study Group would be held virtually. Larry jumped in quickly to learn the Zoom platform, reviewed the 2020 CPP Study Manual, ASIS Flash Cards, POA volumes, and the Standards and Guidelines as well as recruited other exceptional CPP facilitators to help teach the Study Group. This team hosted a very informative and professional virtual study group both for our chapter members and other ASIS members.

The chapter is extremely fortunate to have such a professional, dedicated, and generous individual
leading the ASIS certification initiatives for our membership.

Macky Diop, CPP

In Mr. Diop’s nomination it states, “He has provided our chapter a tremendous wealth of knowledge and positively influenced our membership regarding the importance of pursuing ASIS Certification. He is one of the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter Members who serves as one of our key contributors of the CPP Study Group.” He has served as a facilitator for our CPP Study Group from 2016 – 2021 and our PSP Study Group from 2016 – 2019.

He continues to serve as a true role model for many of our members along every step of their CPP
journey.

Jose Wilson Massa, CPP

In Mr. Massa’s nomination it states, “He has significantly contributed to engage more than 59 members (including members from other regions and chapters such as Benelux/EU; Philippines; Orlando, FL; and South Africa) to a program that challenges and guides security professionals to obtain ASIS International certifications (CPP, PSP, PCI and APP).”

His work includes two programs (members only) for those seeking different preparation strategies, such as a 90-Day Challenge for CPP and a Support Program for Certifications.

Tom Kipyegon, CPP, PCI, PSP

In Mr. Kipyegon’s nomination it states, “He is credited with being among six members of the chapter who came together in 2018 to revamp the Kenyan Chapter, which had become inactive.” Tom
together with Brigadier General (Rtd) Ahamed Mohammed, CPP, PCI, PSP, the then Chapter chair and Charles Oloo, CPP, PSP, Chapter secretary coordinated and facilitated the first in-house CPP class of six in 2019 and realized a 100% pass rate.

Since 2019, he has initiated, mobilized, and guided numerous PSP, CPP, and PCI preparatory classes, which has resulted in a great many new certificants in East and Central Africa, including the first female CPPs in those regions. He is currently offering the first-ever APP prep classes in Africa too.

He is a member of the sub-Saharan regional committee and chairs an adhoc committee on Certification Promotion in Africa. This committee is in the processes of laying strategies with KPIs to see growth of certification amongst the ASIS community chapters in Africa.

About the Award

Established in 2011, the Public-Private Partnership Excellence Grant in honor of Matthew Simeone is administered with support from the ASIS Law Enforcement Liaison Council (LELC) and recognizes an outstanding active P3 program that increases community safety. The award is named in honor of Matthew Simeone, a distinguished 24-year member of the Nassau County (New York) Police Department who was also an active LELC member and P3 proponent.

About the Winner

Hanover County Sheriff's Office SHIELD, Hanover, Virginia, USA, Captain Terry Sullivan; nominated by the ASIS Richmond Chapter

As the threat of terrorism, active shooters and domestic extremism continues to grow, the techniques used to deliver terror attacks rapidly change. As a result, law enforcement must have a “real time” program designed to include private sector partners in terrorism education and prevention as it is happening. The Hanover County Sheriff's Office SHIELD accomplishes this goal by partnering with major cities across the country to network open-source information and intelligence in a way to share with our private sector partners.

The Sheriff’s Office SHIELD program uses a secure web platform to provide real time significant event information, terrorism and crime trend intelligence and resources designed to prevent partners and their resources from becoming victims of crime. Communications are designed for sector specific partners. The program structure is designed to increase collaboration with industry experts and the program provides a reliable source of information sharing and best practices to keep people safe.

SHIELD works in partnership with metropolitan police agencies and private sector partners from around the world to increase terrorism and crime trend awareness and share prevention methods. The success of this program is measured on the development of a formal HCSO information/resource sharing web platform that has an expanded distribution of approximately 70,000 citizens, global partners, private security, critical infrastructure, watch programs and various private sectors into the SHIELD Network.

A phone app was also created to enhance reporting of suspicious activity as well as a multi-jurisdiction and private sector intelligence development initiative designed to support public safety and real time incident alert monitoring. In addition, Hanover SHIELD created a process to support other law enforcement agencies on developing a SHIELD program and hosted the first Global SHIELD Conference, which included both law enforcement and private sector partners. Additional metrics for success include a reduction of crime which is the lowest recorded since 1975.

Rudolph A. Dubord, III, CPP

In Mr. Dubord’s nomination it states, “ Rudy DuBord has served as a dedicated Committee Chair for the SFBA chapter Certification Committee for 20 years”. Two of the amazing things that Rudy has championed during his tenure as the Certification Committee Chair are the building out of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter’s “certification library” and holding yearly certification review study sessions. He has also been a champion and coach to those seeking their certifications, which can be the big differentiator in whether someone is successful in their pursuit of an ASIS certification.

About the Award

This award recognizes an ASIS region(s) for outstanding support of the ASIS Foundation during the year.

About the Winner

Latin America

Groups 7 and 8 organized and held a series of educational sessions called the Latin America & Caribbean Security Tour 2020. It was held virtually on 2-27 November 2020, and attendees were asked to donate to the ASIS Foundation in order to participate. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, they held 20 conferences in 20 days, with three in English and the rest in Spanish. More than 30 chapters participated, and they raised a total of $4,153 USD to support ASIS Foundation scholarships, grants and research.
In addition, the eight chapters of region 7A (Mexico) recently organized another educational event called From the Heart to our Foundation. During a 2-day period, each chapter held one webinar with sponsors and participants donating to the Foundation. The event raised over $4,400 USD. Latin America encourages other chapters to use these events as a model for fundraising in their own regions.

We are proud to recognize the creative and energetic volunteers in Latin America who organized these outstanding events to benefit their ASIS Foundation!

2021 Winners

Middle Tennessee
New Delhi, India

About the Winners

Middle Tennessee

The Middle Tennessee Chapter hosted its 20th annual golf tournament in support of the Andrew Jackson Friends of Police Youth Camp, which sponsors inner-city children in six classes during the summer. Police officers volunteer their time to teach the youth respect for law and order and to provide them guidance on becoming productive citizens. The police display their special units and take the kids on canoe trips, horse rides, etc. and generally provide opportunities these young people have never experienced. Many children in precarious family/neighborhood situations graduate and are thankful years later for the experience. The chapter raised more funds than ever coming out of COVID with approximately $30,000 being donated to the Youth Camp and $10,000 to the David S. Hawtin, CPP Memorial Scholarship Fund in support of accreditations by Middle Tennessee Chapter members.

New Delhi, India

The New Delhi, India Chapter has a 9-member Philanthropic Committee that undertook a number of community service projects in 2020, including organizing a clothes donation drive which enabled them to distribute 75 new blankets and 20 cartons of clothes for the elderly, sick, and underprivileged via Earth Saviours Foundation. Chapter members also participated in a “Run in Solidarity” 50 and 100 km challenge event organized by Oxfam Trail Walker. Thirteen members also collectively donated towards the organizer’s cause of fitness and health promotion. Lastly, the Chapter donated INR 100,000 (approximately $1350 USD) to the Prime Minister’s Cares (Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund to help respond to the economic and health distress posted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the Award

The PCB Organizational Award of Merit recognizes an organization displaying outstanding leadership and commitment to professional development of their own security professionals through ASIS certification.

About the Winner

KAUST Government Affairs & Security

Since 2017, KAUST GA and Security has offered ASIS preparatory courses to its security employees to help them to prepare for the ASIS certification exams. In 2020, KAUST GA and Security maximized its support by establishing a long-lasting ASIS certification preparatory program to maintain security staff development and continuing education. The purpose of this program is not only to certify KAUST security managers and professional employees but also to help certify other security practitioners from other organizations in the country.

In June 2019, KAUST GA & Security Department hosted a security seminar. The event was conducted jointly with ASIS International Jeddah Chapter as part of their annual activities to raise awareness about various issues in the security field. The event was attended by about 200 staff from various government security entities and private sectors. Because ASIS International is the world’s largest membership organization for security professionals, hosting such an event gave KAUST Security local and global exposure. The event was featured on KAUST Twitter and top local media outlets.

KAUST GA & Security encourages security employees both at managerial and supervision levels to pursue and attain ASIS certifications through compensation incentives and rewards. It motivates security employees by adopting an incentive and award program to reward those who commit to obtain one of the four ASIS designations. The program includes various types of rewards, including: 1) Promotions; 2) Award of a 5/5 in the annual performance appraisal, with an increase of up to 10 percent in the basic salary; 3) Salary adjustments; and 4) Participation in international security conferences and exhibitions.

About the Award

The Outstanding New/Revitalized Chapter Award recognizes chapters that have exhibited outstanding motivation, excellence, and service. Eligible chapters are new chapters that have been active between one and five years or chapters revitalizing after a period of inactivity. Chapters are evaluated based upon number, frequency, and type of activities in addition to innovation in and promotion of new activities or services.

About the Winner

Philippines

In 2018 and prior years, the Philippines Chapter was able to hold only two chapter meetings annually with less than 30 members in attendance. However, the Chapter began to regain its footing in 2019, holding consistent meetings, launching CPP classroom reviews at the Special Intelligence Training School at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines thanks to an MOU between the chapter and the armed forces. This paved the way for active and former military personnel to take advantage and open career opportunities in the corporate security world.

Despite the difficulties of 2020, including the eruption of Taal Volcano, the chapter continued to engage its members through virtual meetings, paving the way for more members and individuals to take part and increasing attendance to approximately 50 per meeting. Meetings were typically started by showcasing the benefits of becoming an ASIS International member through the YouTube video, encouraging non-member guests to take advantage of the ASIS Emerging Markets membership program. In addition, 10 members were able to earn their CPP designations.
The Chapter now has a full Board and committee structure, including Women in Security and Young Professionals Groups; its first chapter meeting of 2021 was held with more than 100 participants in attendance. Using the ASIS Chapter Certification CPP Starter Kit, online review is underway with 12 participants. As security plays a vital role in the new normal, the Philippines Chapter continues to provide value to its members and proves to be a significant organization.

2021 Winners

United Kingdom

About the Winners

Jamaica

The Jamaica Chapter is well-regarded for its certification courses which continue to support members in achieving their designations. The Chapter launched an “Each One Bring One” campaign which resulted in 66 new members in 2020, representing a 44 percent increase in membership, including Shooter Seminar and a 1-day Security Seminar in partnership with the Jamaica Association of Private Pharmacy Owners.

Lima, Peru

The Lima, Peru Chapter had a consistent record of activities designed to foster personal and professional member growth. In 2020, the Chapter grew approximately 70 percent beyond its 2019 membership and has quadrupled over the past five years. Phoenix

The Phoenix Chapter displayed its commitment to encouraging individual growth and professionalism to the benefit of ASIS International via both in-person and virtual events for career advancement and networking, online training, and organizing and leading a community service event. While membership was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the Chapter continued to recruit members by offering excellent meeting and training opportunities with an emphasis on recruiting younger, less experienced security professionals to the chapter.

United Kingdom

The UK Chapter has stayed engaged with members by hosting 22 events since June 2020, including regular member virtual events, such as weekly lunch and learns through our young professionals, CPE days via our industry liaison board director, monthly informal engagement sessions, and quarterly member seminars that have attracted an average of 100 attendees each. In 2020, the Chapter undertook its largest restructure since its inception, identifying new talent and setting it up for success and longevity. About the Award

Now in its seventh year, the Security Industry Book of the Year is chosen by a committee of ASIS members who are established authors, editors, and reviewers. Eligible books were authored by ASIS members and published in 2019.

About the Winner

Strategic Security: Forward Thinking for Successful Executives by Jean Perois, CPP

In Strategic Security, Juan Perois argues that security professionals too often approach their roles through a reactive lens rather than a proactive one—serving more as “firefighters” than as strategists. The book looks to help security managers think strategically about their job, the culture of their workplace, and the nature of security planning and implementation. Learn more in the August 2020 issue of Security Management.

face-to-face study group for the Greater Atlantic Chapter, in 2020 he transitioned to a virtual study group. To help make this transition, he had to study all the topics for the CPP Study Group and prepare his presentations with very limited time between each domain topic. Additionally, two study groups are planned for 2021.” \ \ His most remarkable achievement is the increase of Chapter membership from 60 members in November 2019 to 120 in December 2020 and the chapter involvement in the mentoring group and Young Professionals. \ \ \ album_69E7D8F9_4FB8_D1E2_41B1_B9E1630E8DB5_3.description = Mr. \ \ \ album_69E7D8F9_4FB8_D1E2_41B1_B9E1630E8DB5_4.description = In Mr. \ \ \ album_69E7D8F9_4FB8_D1E2_41B1_B9E1630E8DB5_5.description = In Mr. \ \ He has been a member of the ASIS Greater Atlanta Chapter Member since 2011 and serves as one of its key contributors of the CPP Study Group. In \ 2021, the Chapter Leadership Team determined that, in the consideration of safety, the CPP Study Group would be held virtually. Larry jumped in quickly to learn the Zoom platform, reviewed the 2020 CPP Study Manual, ASIS Flash Cards, POA volumes, and the Standards and Guidelines as well as recruited other exceptional CPP facilitators to help teach the Study Group.
